Rally and performance couldn’t be more pronounced by the Subaru STi. But some people were not too fond of the ‘Hot’ Hatch design. So Subaru announced the new STi Sedan and facelifted hatch models.
After the latest 3rd generation STi released in 2008, Subaru only offered the Hatchback version of the rally-bred sports car. Many claimed it didn’t harness the looks of their previous models, no ‘rough’ remarks apart from the usual hood scoop. But what stunned people most was the lack of a Sedan variant in the STi lineup.
So, Subaru decided to release a facelift to the hatch and introduce a Sedan version of the STi. It is going to be released possibly in September despite the facelifted STi being a 2011 model.
The new STi boasts wider fenders, a wider body, front skirts and a rear valance. Both the Sedan and Hatch receive these new features. Pictures released of the Sedan show the rugged look of the STi is rocketing back into fashion.
The new STi also has a revised suspension system consisting of independent front & rear suspension, that being front Macpherson strut with Double Wishbone rear.
The Subaru STi carries over the world-renowed powerhorse, the Subaru Horizontal 4’s, turbo-charged engine. The Subaru’s Boxer engine seperates it from the rest giving due to its low position in the engine bay and its horizontal piston layout (hence the name ‘boxer’).
The Subaru’s 2.5L single scroll turbo puts out 227kW & 403nM of torque which is sure to imprint your spine onto the Recaro Bucket Seats.
The STi also features the best AWD system Subaru offers: The Driver's Control Centre Differential system. This system gives the driver the option to select where the power can go. Road racing? Flick the power to the rear wheels, or if you fancy some rallying, lock the centre differential to 50:50 (front: rear) torque split and experience the thrill of the STi’s rigorous handling & power.
The fun doesn’t end there! The STi has a 6 speed manual transmission for both on and off road driving. From 1st gear hair-pins to long 6th gear straights, the STi can be the ultimate contender for whatever driving you prefer.
